The Superintendent is responsible for the supervision of all field activities related to the physical construction.  He/she carries out the direction of the Project Manager with respect to field operations and directs the daily progress of the work.  The jobsite workforce is made up of a group of specialists; the Superintendent must assure that the combination of their efforts results in a cohesive product that achieves the required quality and is completed in the shortest possible time.  He/she continually works to insure adequate staffing, sufficient supply of materials, and complete information as necessary to complete the project while planning for all these things enough in advance so not to interfere with the progress of any one phase or part of our Mission Trails Project in San Diego, California. 


  • Responsible for day-to-day supervision of field labor for complex water storage and water transmission construction project.
  • Plan and coordinate all subcontractors work and personnel, determining whether subcontractors are providing sufficient workforce and hours of work to achieve performance commitments
  • Provides ongoing field information and field reviews as required by project management.
  • Coordinates training and compliance measures to ensure project procedures are followed.
  • Provides senior experience and knowledge in underground concrete water storage tank and large diameter pipeline excavation and grading self-perform construction to the team and field operations.
  • Develops cost savings solutions for concrete construction, large pipeline, excavation and grading, and other trade issues and scopes of work.
  • Identifies and secures necessary approvals for all changes in project scope, budget and/or schedule.
  • Follows and ensures conformance with policies and procedures, including safety policies.
  • Lead, direct, coordinate all day to day self-perform work scopes.
  • Develop and maintain site logistics plan, in coordination with Project Manager.
  • Conduct quality inspections.
  • Coordinate site testing and inspection efforts.
  • Monitor costs, including labor time and material
  • Communicate and enforce OHL Safety and Health Management Program
  • Demonstrate commitment to an Injury-Free Environment through personal actions and mentoring others
  • Manage schedules, including preparation of detailed short-term schedules and ensuring all activities take place on or ahead of scheduled dates
  • Prepare and submit Superintendent's Daily Reports
  • Attend and participate in project meetings, including subcontractor meetings
  • Maintain, recruit and help increase quality of skilled labor force employees for the project and future projects
  • Effectively communicate with project staff, company safety personnel, and overall company operations personnel regarding project status, details and needs.


  • Heavy Civil Construction background with 10+ years
  • Field experience required per contract: experience in construction ACI 350 cast-in-place concrete structures with slab on grade construction joints and cast-in-place concrete roof structure supported by columns.
  • Experience will all aspects of construction including: forming, water stop, placing concrete, finishing and curing concrete, stripping formwork and hydrotesting.
  • $20-$30 Million + Heavy/Civil Construction project as Project Superintendent required per contract.
  • Must be safety oriented – 10-hour and 30-hour OSHA certificates are preferred, but not required.
  • Thorough and experienced understanding of underground concrete water storage tank and large diameter pipeline self-perform construction logistics and requirements for mechanical, civil, architectural and other applicable scopes of work.
  • Underground pipeline water line experience
  • Bypass installation experience
  • Public works and Water/Wastewater Agency experience strongly preferred
  • Familiarity with terms and conditions of Project Contracts, Subcontracts, and Purchase Orders
  • Strong ability to read drawings and specifications
  • Strong organizational and time management skills.
  • Strong work ethic – willing to do what it takes to get the job done.
  • Ability to function as a team builder/player.
  • The ability to freely access all points of a construction site in wide-ranging climates and environments.
  • Proficient at Microsoft Office Suite
  • Storm Water Pollution Prevention Plan (SWPPP) training a plus, however QSP or QSD certifications are not required.
